Automatic Loveletter – Makeup Smeared Eyes
Automatic Loveletter are growing and set to take the UK by storm.
They remind me of Paramore, mixed with a modern Avril Lavigne and some All Time Low thrown in. It works.
The following song is one of the slow songs they do, it’s a gorgeous song which you should check out.
Lyrics
Left your t-shirt in my room
Still smells of you
And the picture you hung on the door
Lay smashed, picture perfect
Explains now
Clearly nothing left but a memory
We only made out
You never kissed me
That’s how I learned to hold back all feelingWait, please don’t go
I won’t stay
All these words on replay
I’m okay
It’s all right
Good to know that you’re finePretending everything is right to make it better
I’ll hide my make-up smeared eyes
To show that I’m fineSome how you have managed to get under my skin
More than anyone ever did
And if every hole makes a scar
And every scar marks its place
Then I will never live freely without your trace
And it’ll never be fair
I wrote my songs for you and you never even cared
So I’ll forget you
I’ll wash your t-shirt and kill the pillow
And cut you out of picturesWait, please don’t go
I won’t stay
All these words on replay
I’m okay
It’s all right
Good to know that you’re finePretending everything is right to make it better
I’ll hide my make-up smeared eyesThis drama sat shotgun
My eyes rained like autumn
Only the glove box knows how the story goes
Now that this bandage is broken
And the cuts left in open
I’ll tell you just one thing
This wasn’t worth the sting (x3)
Should Downloading Music be Illegalised?
What a hot topic.
The government have made plans to cut anyone found downloading music and movies illegally to be cut off from the internet.
What gives them the right to cut anyone off of the internet? The Music Mag does not condone illegal downloading, but it has just become part of what the internet is about. I estimate probably half of internet users between the ages of 15-30 illegally download music and movies. Will the ISP’s really cut off half of their users??
However CD’s are cheaper than ever, and songs are available to buy on iTunes. I’ve seen new albums out for £5.99 in HMV and the like. That’s a very good price. However, if downloading was tracked and punished the prices would just go up again. The reason they’re so cheap at the moment is that they need to be that cheap as people can just download them. Damn straight.
Many of our friends at The Music Mag buy their music from iTunes, but many also download it without iTunes, others use streaming sites such as Spotify, which has become very popular – check it out!
However, if downloading music is stopped, who’s to say sites like spotify won’t be next. I’ve seen sites similar to it be took down before and if the government goes ahead with chasing up illegal music activity then sI can see streaming sites be taken down too – or at least banned from uk IP addresses.
We’d love to get opinions on this and start a bit of a debate on whether downloading music and movies should be punished as harshly as the government are planning.

Live Music a Criminal Offence?
Is Live Music soon to be a criminal offense in so many pubs and bars around the UK?
Under the Licensing Act, a performance by one musician in a bar, restaurant, school or hospital not licensed for live music could lead to a criminal prosecution of those organising the event. Even a piano may count as a licensable ‘entertainment facility’. By contrast, amplified big screen broadcast entertainment is exempt. The government says the Act is necessary to control noise nuisance, crime, disorder and public safety, even though other laws already deal with those risks. Musicians warned the Act would harm small events. About 50% of bars and 75% of restaurants have no live music permission. Obtaining permission for the mildest live music remains costly and time-consuming. In May, the Culture, Media and Sport Committee recommended exemptions for venues up to 200 capacity and for unamplified performance by one or two musicians. The government said no. But those exemptions would restore some fairness in the regulation of live music and encourage grassroots venues.
There’s a petition to stop this from happening. There are currently 7,267 on there. If you’re a big fan of live music, please add your name to the list using the link below:

Want a drink this weekend in London?
Hey guys and girls!
Being a part time Londoner by trade, full time Londoner by heart, I thought I’d advise a couple of places to go if you fancied a drink this weekend.
The Cross Kings in Kings Cross has some quality little bands on for very cheap, it’s always busy and is a nice atmosphere. I’ve been there a few times and found some quality bands, that I still keep in contact with now. The beer price isn’t amazing – being central London – but if i remember rightly it was about £3 a pint.
Don’t fancy central? I’ve visited a place in Lewisham called the Fox and Firkin. They do a festival there every summer called the Fox Fest. What a festival!
Two days of music, from lunch time til bed time. All for a few quid. Absolutely aamzing, with a fantastic beer garden to boot.
Again beer prices aren’t cheap cheap, but they often have a few cheaper options and is a little better priced than central. Also the food on the way back will make up for that! 1.99 for burger and chips! Hells yeah!
Anyway. They’re my two recommendations for tonight if you’re out and about and looking for an adventurre. Lewisham can be a bit rough, so be careful if you go there – once in side the pub though it’s friendly as possible.
Is Lady Gaga a Hermaphrodite?
Okay, so if you follow celebrity talk, or gawp at Lady Gaga like a lot of us, you’ll have heard the rumours floating around.
The rumour is that lady Gaga has a penis! She has both male and female parts, that she is a hermaphrodite.
To be honest, that could be anything really. But she does have quite a strong jaw line and a slightly man-ish walk. She also has a massive gay and lesbian following.
So what do you reckon? Yes or No? Is she a Hermaphrodite?
Please take a look around our site as well – We have some great Unsigned Bands, most of which are based in London. We have some wicked features and reviews, including The Best Chillout Music and more.
Arms – Kids Aflame Review
ARMS
Kids Aflame [Melodic 2008]
ARMS: An experimental fuse of raw audio and memorable riffs fronted by Harlem Shakes guitarist Todd Goldstein. Known for his ‘noisy’ avant-garde approach, Goldstein has a rare gift for shaping buzzing pop songs without falling victim to the ever-preying mediocrity that seems to haunt America’s contemporary indie circles. The album, Kids Aflame, is a satisfying compilation of lively songs which most alternative bands would claim in exchange for their beloved Fender Strats.
‘Whirring’ is undoubtedly the alternative anthem of the album, with its foot-tapping rhythm which is shaded by Goldstein’s catchy lyrics and strident bass. A song which would undeniably blend into an indie club’s DJ set, not unlike ‘Shitty Little Disco’ a brave venture into a darker form of pop, mingling bleak lyrics with repeated pinnacles of instrumental grandeur.
The popular single ‘Kids Aflame’ completes the collection, an upbeat mix of ukulele and melodica with that all-important humming background choir. This ballad-inspired song recalls everything that is most powerful about ARMS: Goldstein’s gift for alluring lyrics and flair for arranging strong instrumental compositions. Goldstein’s distinctive lilt compliments these captivating lyrics perfectly, and not without a hint of bitter hostility which the musician-cum-cynic has cultivated ably.
Kids Aflame is a quality album worthy of any experimental artist, especially one whose music falls into the indie genre without tripping over that all-too-familiar stale sound of indie banality.

Cheryl Cole’s New Single
This is really just an excuse to post a picture or two of Cheryl Cole. The Music Mag’s not really edged towards music gossip and celebrity news, but this means we can give you a few pictures of the gorgeous Cheryl Cole as well
:
Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole has ‘an absolute club banger’ lined up for her debut solo single.
Cole is currently working on her solo album and has collaborated with British R’n’B star Taio Cruz for one of the songs.
“The track is an absolute club banger. Cheryl will definitely come out of the gates sounding very cool. Her label loves the track with my voice singing it, but Cheryl’s got a good voice herself. They want me to do a rap in the middle, so it feels very exciting to collaborate with her,” Contactmusic quoted Taio as saying.
Cole, who featured on will.i.am’s single ‘Heartbreaker’ last year, has collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas frontman again in Los Angeles for other tracks on the highly anticipated album.
Taio has also revealed that he is working with ‘X Factor’ winner Alexandra Burke, who Cheryl mentored on the UK TV talent show last year.
He told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “I have a lot of people asking me to write and produce records for them and I’m always up for it. With Alexandra they want to keep her diva-esque soul voice intact.
“So I’ve written something she could really sing out. It’s still in keeping with what’s happening now with the electronic dance music scene too,” he added. (credit to ANI)
