Cheryl Cole’s New Single
This is really just an excuse to post a picture or two of Cheryl Cole. The Music Mag‘s not really edged towards music gossip and celebrity news, but this means we can give you a few pictures of the gorgeous Cheryl Cole as well
:
Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole has ‘an absolute club banger’ lined up for her debut solo single.
Cole is currently working on her solo album and has collaborated with British R’n’B star Taio Cruz for one of the songs.
“The track is an absolute club banger. Cheryl will definitely come out of the gates sounding very cool. Her label loves the track with my voice singing it, but Cheryl’s got a good voice herself. They want me to do a rap in the middle, so it feels very exciting to collaborate with her,” Contactmusic quoted Taio as saying.
Cole, who featured on will.i.am’s single ‘Heartbreaker’ last year, has collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas frontman again in Los Angeles for other tracks on the highly anticipated album.
Taio has also revealed that he is working with ‘X Factor’ winner Alexandra Burke, who Cheryl mentored on the UK TV talent show last year.
He told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “I have a lot of people asking me to write and produce records for them and I’m always up for it. With Alexandra they want to keep her diva-esque soul voice intact.
“So I’ve written something she could really sing out. It’s still in keeping with what’s happening now with the electronic dance music scene too,” he added. (credit to ANI)

Must Hear: Neo-Classical
Neoclassical Music
This is a new feature of The Music Mag.
Every week we will be posting Must Hear Music, featuring a different type of music, which is a relatively unknown genre. As our first week we will start out with one of my favourites.
Mono
Anyone that is a regular on here knows that I freekin love these guys, and it’s one reason to make this post – so that I can help more people find this band. The way the music builds up, climaxes, and the “big band” feel they provide makes them feel Neo-Classical to me. They use electrical instruments, but who’s to say that isn’t the way of the future for Classical music? Well, Neo-Classical anyway.
Sigur Ros
Sigur Ros are interesting. Some songs resemble classical music, with piano and strings creating an atmosphere like which I have never heard, but then others are experimental, louder and not so classical. Nevertheless they need a mention. The songs that fit in to this category are probably some of the best. Make sure you listen to this one:
Triarii
(taken from LastFM)
Triarii is a German martial industrial act. They combine martial industrial with neo-classical and even neo-military pop.
The name of the group comes from Latin: The Triarii (Latin singular: triarius) was the third standard line of infantry of the Roman Republic’s army. Its name is related to the Latin word tres (“three”), ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *trei-.
DISCLAIMER:
After some feedback on reddit, I’d like to say this is what neo-classical music is to me. It definitely does not agree with popular classifications and I’m by no means an expert on the subject. The following are just a few bands I feel are good and I believe to fit in to this genre.
My Luminaries – The Outsider Steps Inside
These guys are multi-talented. I’m hoping to have a feature on them very soon, but before I do here’s a little taster of how good they are.
This song – The Outsider Steps Inside – was their debut single. I believe they received some good coverage but didn’t quite break through. Why? I have no idea. Their sound is immaculate.
The Music Mag Teams Up With Oxjam Leicester
The Music Mag have been asked to help out with Oxjam Leicester, a charity music festival held – not surprisingly – in Leicester.
We will be featuring a lot of the artists that will be playing this years festival on our Unsigned Bands page. Some will be handpicked and placed on the homepage as well.
Their website has not gone live yet, so follow them on twitter, or check back for more updates: Oxjam Twitter
So keep checking back for further updates as we team up with Oxjam Leicester to help build up some unsigned bands.
Moscow Drive July Update
Well I’ve been following Moscow Drive on myspace for a while now, so I thought I might as well let everyone who isn’t their friend (insert sad face), get the latest news:
July 8th
Hello to all – and to all of the people hat have joined this page recently…!
We’ve been up to shed loads since I last updated. As I’ve mentioned before, drama seems to follow us around and this trend has continued, and doesn’t seem like relenting. Nae bad thing I guess – but for those of you who know which drama I’m on about – keep it with you, my fellows. Keep it with you.
OK, first off, and to make things easier – the new address for the facebook page is – www.facebook.com/moscowdrive
Unfortunately due to promoter difficulties (and the pinch) the gig we had slated on the 10th July has been cancelled. Massive shame, was gonna be a belter.
Check the event page – here
Nice and early, so you can either stick around with us after in the bar upstairs, or you can venture off in to London with plenty of time to spare…
In other news, we went into the studio to record a demo of new song ‘The Chase’, which sounds massive. And the worrying thing is – IT’S A DEMO!! And it sounds huge already. We’ll let you hear it very soon (promise)! Dread to think how mammoth it will sound once we record it fully.
Over the weekend, we had a country gent follow us round all day with a camera taking pictures. The word genius doesn’t get thrown about often, but this guy really is one. Aside from being a gent, he’s amazing at his job, and made us ugly mugs look pretty effing good. We went to a baron car park in our fair old town of Orpington, and then to an abandoned girls school in the depths of kent (the most beautiful building ever). It has been untouched for about 20 years and is completely derelict. Full of aspestos – but hey… you gotta fight through ithings to get to the goal ey! Even if it means getting serious aspestos poisoning. Good times. No, we wore hilarious masks for most of the day…
The fruits of these shots will be available for all to see very soon.
See you then
x
