The Most Amazing Song Ever
This is possibly the most amazing song that I’ve ever heard. Mono & World’s End Girlfriend from the album Palmless Prayer Mass Murder Refrain
Telling a story without words. Building emotion with simple melodies and crushing them with distorted crashes.
If you had one more song you could hear in your life, hear this (it’s in two parts):

Daisy Cutter – Fast Forward
Daisy Cutter – Queen Bitch
Playing more than 100 shows all over Norway, Daisy Cutter loves the stage. Their songs are unforgettable with choruses getting in your head from the first time you listen to them. Daisy Cutter is like a strong drug injected deep in your veins… It takes you away before fatally kicking the hell out of you.
Late 2002 vocalist Rainer Vasshaug was performing a local club in the sleepy town of Harstad. In the audience was guitarist Jan Olav Isachsen, thinking “holy smoke, I need to start a band with this guy!” The contact was made, and by spring 2003 Daisy Cutter was a fact of life.
Rehearsing and writing followed, and the EP “A Cure for the Common” was released early 2004. The EP was well received and includes the classic “Secure Settings”, still a favorite in local clubs and radio-stations.
Following the release the band focused on live gigs, including warm-ups for major Norwegian acts. This has led to a tighter, cooler, harder, raunchier show, reflected in new material and fan-favorites like “Q`s and B`s” and “Naked”.
Daisy Cutter is often compared to known acts such as Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and Audioslave. Still the band themselves get their influences from a much wider range of artists, including Nine Inch Nails, Led Zeppelin, A Perfect Circle and Smashing Pumpkins.
The band decides to release in 2009, a demo “The Wreck Sessions” featuring 4 songs: “Q’s and B’s”, “Fast Forward”, “All is Fake” and “Secure Settings”.
Getting then noticed by YES Records & Management (Australia) in 2009, YES Records will re-release their demo “The Wreck Sessions” for promotion purposes only.
Daisy Cutter is now preparing for recording and extensive touring nationwide and abroad.
Daisy Cutter are:
Rainer Vasshaug – Vocals
Jan Olav Isachsen – Guitar
Stein Edvardsen – Bass
Geir Nordheim – Drums
7 Tips For Bands To Get More Listeners
Are you a band interested in gaining some more exposure? Well I’m sure you’re doing a couple of these things at the moment, but to be gaining fans and getting more listeners of your music there are 7 tips to give you a hand!
1/ A Myspace Account
This is a MUST for any band or musician, myspace has become the tool. You don’t even need a website any more, just a myspace with your songs uploaded , perhaps some pictures as well.
2/ Gig Gig Gig
Yeah so you may think you’re the next Guns n Roses
, but you’ve got to gig everywhere and anywhere you can. A promoter once told me that “there are so many bands around now, so it’s sometimes impossible to pull out the needle from the haystack”. Gig your ass off, gain some followers, have CDs to sell at gigs and flyers with your myspace page on it.
3/ Youtube
Link your myspace with a youtube account. Put up some videos of you at venues (get a friend to record you with a cheap camera if nothing else), and record yourself doing an acoustic song in front of your PC as a sort of special song for the fans. This can help to gain fans and exposure, as well as keeping your current fans sweet.
4/ Contact Unsigned Bands Sites
There are lots of websites out there to help Unsigned Bands. Just search for unsigned bands in google and have a little look through (don’t just click on the first one or two! – have a proper dig through and see what the sites have to offer). Doing this can find competitions, opportunities and more.
A lot of Music mag websites also feature unsigned bands as well, so that’s also something to try.
5/ Enter Competitions
There are so many competitions out there for unsigned bands. A lot of them are even done via the net. Many of them may not seen like huge deals, but they will offer more exposure and some offer radio play as a reward. You can find these again by searching google or using social sites such as twitter to listen out for things.
6/ Use Twitter and Tweetdeck
Make a twitter account and then set up searches for “your band name” “music your location” – eg “killers” “music london” and similar searches like “bands london”, “unsigned bands“. Leave tweetdeck on in the background and whenever somebody posts anything with those keywords, you will be able to view it. Twitter is becoming more and more popular and this is a great way to find local venues that wants bands, music sites, or competitions. It’s also a good way of seeing if anybody is talking about you and what they have to say.
7/ The Radio
So you may not be able to instantly get your music played on the radio, but that is the aim. Air play = more fans = more money. That is the basic principle of air time and why it works so well.
BBC Introducing is a great avenue to try and use, although it can be difficult to get played. Internet radio stations can be listened to by tens of thousands of people as well, so get in touch with them and ask them to play your track – most of them will.
So there are my 7 top tips for musicians looking for a little bit of extra exposure. I hope you enjoyed and please keep checking back for more articles in the future.

The 20 Hottest Women in Music (part 2)
Part 1: 20-11
10. Taylor Swift
The country pop singer came on to the scene not so along ago and took the charts by storm. Her cute youthfullness, mixed with raw emotion is definitely a fantastic appeal of hers. Gorgeous with a cracking country voice. Not bad at number 10.
9. Katharine Mcphee
A big player in 2008! Musician, actress, model, go girl! Since finishing as runner up in American Idol, she’s had a single go gold and become a big mover and shaker over in the US. She should start moving and shaking her self over this way too!
8. Avril Lavigne
Now the pop rocker hasn’t been up to much recnetly, but her new album is set to come out in November, the alternative turned retro beauty is set to storm the charts and once again have us drooling over the TV screens.
7. Alicia keys
The Urbantor as we like to call her at the music mag. She is the naturally gob stopping and fantastically breathtaking urban queen over here. Her voice is something to behold too. She sits at number 8 on the chart!
6. Lady Gaga
A mixed year I think it’s fair to say. She’s recently been hailed as the most downloaded artist this year. She’s also been hailed as a hermaphrodite. So yeah, a bit of a mixed year. Here at the music mag, we care not for these rumours – she is smoking! And if she has a teeny weeny, then so be it!
5. Carrie Underwood
She gets so much publicity Your typical blond bombshell. I personally think she’s attractive, but not as hot as she’s made out to be by hollywood. So she goes in the middle of the top 10 at number 5.
4.Katy Perry
Katy, along with the likes of lady gaga, have just trashed the competition in terms of record sales and popularity through songs. She has a wickedcool voice, is slightly trashy without being too over the top and seems like somebody I’d definitely like to party with!
3. Little Boots
So qwerky, fun and sexy! Little Boots storms straight in at number three. I…I can’t write any more, I have to get to number 1!! keep scrolling for amazing pictures!
2. Hayley Williams
Hayley Williams is probably my favourite on this list. The little rocker has took the alternative kids by their heart with her spunky look and beautiful voice.
Be sure to listen to the video which is an acoustic version of ‘here we go again’. Her natural beauty shines through.
AND FINALLY
1. Cheryl Cole
Who else but good old Cheryl could be number one? The fact that she comes from up north only adds to her charm. Constantly on our TV screens with x factor and probably the best girl group around at the moment – girls aloud – she’s buzzing forward at the top of our list.
London Gig Alert – The Deadsets (Sept. 7-12th)
This week throughout London The Music Mag has a treat for you. How would you like to hear a quality Belgian Indie band playing in your local?
Definitely one to check out! The Deadsets combine the beauty of fleetfoxes with the quirkiness of Jim O’rourke. They are fairly unknown but their quality has got them some good gigs over here this week. So if you’re looking for something to do, go see these chaps and add them on myspace!

Street Legends
Street Legends, the UK’s newest emerging talent from the London Urban scene. Combining slick production with solid lyrics, Street Legends are coming hard.
Working on their talent from an early age, Rowdie and K.D joined up with rap collective, Horror Crew.
A rap group of emerging talent from the ages of 10-18, Rowdie and K.D were quickly ear marked as rising stars within the Horror Crew. Working on live P.A’s across the country and Europe, Horror Crew was making headlines; not only for their entertaining sets but also for the raw talent they had within the ranks.
After a few fluttering starts with Horror Crew, the boys felt they needed more foundation and life experience to maintain a strong writing influence within their lyrics.
After a few years running on the grind, Rowdie was ready to unleash the raw South West to the streets. He quickly formed a squad of talented young and experienced rappers and, as a result Street Legends (S.L) was born.
Rowdie brought his younger brother, KD, into the fold, installing him as his second in command. With his enigmatic charm and complete dedication to his art, K.D quickly established himself as a powerhouse not only for lyrics but production too.
S.L were introduced to MadeMen Records via a chance encounter. So impressed were the label heads that S.L were signed in a matter of days.
The streets are buzzing with excitement for SL’s much anticipated Mix Tape “Street Legends: Secret Society”, soon to be released along with their first music video “Push Bike”. As if this wasn’t enough excitement, now with BBC Radio 1’s DJ Nihal pushing the upcoming single release “Dirty Britz” on his show, the end of 2009 looks like a good time to line up with Street Legends.
S.L are embarking on their toughest test yet, gaining legendary status officially.

The 20 Hottest Women in Music (part 1)
I scowled the internet for the hottest women in music and found no absolute list. This is the list! Rock, Pop, RnB, Metal, Dance, everyone is taken in to consideration. Numbers 20-11 are below for your viewing pleasures.
20. Jenny Lewis
She started her music career with the band Rilo Keley in 1998, which featured a country and indie mix, moving towards indie rock towards 2004 where she became popular amongst the mainstream. Bright Eyes invited Lewis to record a solo record for their label, which was called Rabbit Fur Coat. She received praise from many sources; Rolling Stone commenting that “her girlishly seductive vocals are more versatile than ever”.
Let’s face it, she’s pretty hot. Like a girl next door that you’d see and appreciate through the small space between your curtains.
Listen to Jenny Lewis on her Myspace
19. Leona Lewis
One of the most amazing performers ever to appear on American Idol or X-Factor. The Brit has been compared to Whitney Houston, amongst others and has a truely fantastic voice. She was always favourite to win the competition and performed some fantastic songs, if you haven’t heard them yet, look on youtube. Her debut album sold like wildifre and she’s been going from strength to strength.
She’s cute in an innocent sorta way don’t you think? A nice mix up from the fake tans being splashed out everywhere.
18. Cat Power / Chan Marshal
Cat Power is the stage name of American singer/songwriter Chan Marshall (born Charlyn Marie Marshall on 21 January 1972). She is known for her minimalist style, sparse guitar and piano playing, and breathy vocals – took from Wikipedia as I know nothing about her unfortunately!
But she gorgeous. If I could find some more seductive pictures, she’d be higher believe me!
17. Aubrey Oday
That’s right, it’s boiling down to the less you wear the better stage! Aubrey Oday looks horrible in some pictures – fake tan overdose – but she looks breathtaking in some pictures like this one.
She made her way to fame through MTV’s show Making The Band, which helped her become a part of Danity Fair (Vanity fair). They weren’t my exact cup of tea, but her looks and willingness to take off her clothes got her in to the spot light and on to this list.
16. Christina Aguilera
Okay, Christina is super hot. Well, she used to be. She’s from the old Britney Spears generation where they come in, are amazingly hot, do really well and then fade off a bit. Then to try and get back in the limelight they turn trashy, get a fair bit of negative press, have a kid, and then trash themselves up again.
She’s still gorgeous, but in 2009 this is where she is on this list.
15. Beyonce
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, music video director, actress, dancer, fashion designer, dog groomer, perfume smeller, pepsi taster, billboard advertiser, lingerie model, the list is endless. Knowles rose to fame as the creative force and lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny’s Child, the world’s best-selling female group of all time.
I still remember her for the foxy performance in Austin Powers. She’s lost a bit of her mojo in recent times though and has been placed thoughtfully at number 15.
14. Rhianna
Bless her. She’s been through a lot with the reported domestic violence with her then boyfriend, Chris Brown. But she’s now on a comeback baby!
Her new album is said to be released in November (whilst recording she’s posed in vogue nearly completely naked). She’s sure to be back on top of the world – and have men flocking after her – in no time! I haven’t got the Vogue pictures on hand, but this is a FHM picture of her:

13. Nicole Scherzinger
A member of the Pussycat Dolls, but a failed solo run, for shame! However, some of her solo songs were released on the newest dolls album. Still she’s extremely hot and can bend ways that set my imagination in to overdrive!
12. Lzzy Hale
Is there anybody that knows who this chick is? If so, could I get her phone number?
She’s the lead singer of a band called Halestorm and despite being ridiculously hot, has not reached the fame that has given her scantily clad photo shoots in FHM and the like. Check out the band and take note of the name. A gorgeous lady.
11. Cristina Scabbia
The lead singer of Lacuna Coil and the center of many fantasies! She’s up high as she’s a little bit different and held in goddess like status with the rockers.
For all the rock and metal fans out there is this your dream woman? She’s definitely up there in my list and concludes the first half of our top 20!
PART 2 (10-1) HERE
New X-Factor Layout Sucks!
The beginning stage of X-Factor was always my favourite.
One lonely soul (or a group) entering an isolated room in front of 4 judges, one of them including the monstrous Simon Cowell.
This has provided so many funny moments, where you’ve felt happy enough to laugh at long at the hopeless and glee with joy at the hopefulls. Check this example for comedy gold:
But now the audition stage has been put in front of a live audience with backing music. BAD DECISION. It just takes away from the raw singing aspect – looking for talent – It’s now just a singing version of Britains Got Talent. The next stages won’t be as special, as we’ve already seen them in front of an audience (some of the mystery has already been took away), and the pure singing talent aspect has been replaced by shovanistic pleggs.
That’s not really my main concern with it though, it’s just that we lose that beginning phase, as this is so similar now to the rest of it. We miss that acoustic, singing in a small room feel. I know when I’ve seen someone sing beautifully, i’ve thought that they’ve been singing to me, whereas now they’re performing to a crowd.
Here is a clip of the new x factor set-up:
X-Factor has got it wrong this year.
