Talk To Angels – She

Talk To Angels are the United Nations of the music industry, uniting the coolest of indie kids, the scruffiest of metal-heads and the sassiest of pop princesses as one.

Talk to Angels New Single and UK Tour

Talk To Angels are set to become one of the most talked-about bands in the current UK music scene.

The hotly-anticipated new single is here and ready to explode into your senses – via the Warp Speed Carousel label – with neon, fuzzy, synth-laden epic alt-pop, bursting with hooks, harmonies and hyperactive guitars.

Talk To Angels are the United Nations of the music industry, uniting the coolest of indie kids, the scruffiest of metal-heads and the sassiest of pop princesses as one. Bringing the world together is a beautiful thing, someone has to since Bono did his back in. Maybe you’re aware of the band already? Maybe you visited their Myspace page once and spent the next few days humming the insanely-catchy hooks of Enemies Closer? Perhaps you’ve witnessed one of their mesmerizing gigs (partying in pyjamas or otherwise), or have just seen the band name-checked as a one to watch?

In fact, the music industry in the United States were the first to pick up on the band, inviting them to last year’s South by Southwest festival and undertaking a debut tour of the US. The jaunt resulted in a dramatic conclusion after their last gig when one of the band met with a car running a red light, leaving him with serious injuries and a band stranded far from home. But a crushing alloy bumper would never be enough to keep these young troopers down for long…

Three quarters of Talk to Angels were born in Bradford 21 years ago. Craig Kaye (vocals/guitar) Chris Robbins (bass) and Jamie Lofthouse (drums) have known each other pretty much all their lives, forming the band at the tender age of 15. A couple of years ago, they cleverly negotiated some free studio time with Mickey Dale, the keyboard player from Embrace in return for clearing out his basement (you know the usual – lawnmower, Christmas decorations, car parts) so he could physically get a studio in there.

Mickey agreed to engineer new tracks from the three noiseniks. Mickey turned on the mixing desk, sat back and was promptly blown away by the sheer quality and velocity exploding from the speakers and announced right there he was joining the band!

Let’s face it, Mickey knows a thing or two about bands augmenting an already joyous, often acerbic, dramatic sound with his own style to create a unique cacophony, resulting in one of the singles of 2010. Talk To Angels write vivid songs about guilt, pleasure and pain. Bittersweet laments about life, lost love and murderous intentions driven by incendiary passion. The lads deliver a sound that makes boys dance and girls weak at the knees.

Welcome to the new soundtrack of 2010. Sit back, crack open the space dust and lets go warp speed Captain.

The band tour the UK this autumn and you can see them at the following live dates : Sept: 10th – Glasgow / 11th – Tunnels Aberdeen / 12th – Voodoo Rooms Edinburgh / 13th – Dexters Bar Dundee / 14th – The Fishtank Durham / 15th – The Hop Wakefield / 16th – Cockpit Room 2 Leeds / 17th – The Mill Preston / 18th – Mello Mello Liverpool / 19th – Central venue Nottingham / Oct: 5th – Huddersfield Student Union / 7th – 93 Feet East, London / 14th – Hope & Anchor, London / 16th – Cockpit, Leeds.

Advantages of Bands Selling Out?

BB6 Music posted an interesting podcast regarding what is selling out for bands. Credit to them for this:

Nice work if you can get it. With music sales no longer a stable source of income, bands and artists are saying “yes” more than ever to corporate branded gigs and private parties.

It’s a lucrative business with some acts charging as much as £1 million for a show.

Starting with Groove Armada, who were once signed to Barcardi’s record label, Adrian Larkin takes a trip into the world of corporate gigging.

Wizard Festival, Aberdeenshire

Organisers of this year’s Wizard Festival, held at New Deer, Aberdeenshire, have announced a clutch of top class acts have been added to the bill.

wizard%20logo Wizard Festival, Aberdeenshire

Sandi Thom, Proud Mary, The Dykeenies, Kid British and The Dangleberries have all been added to the main stage line up.

Hip Parade, The Draymin and Root System have all been confirmed to play the festivals second stage, the Banshee stage.

The festival, now in its fourth year, is held on August 27 & 28, over the bank holiday weekend.

Local lass Sandi Thom will be performing on Wizard’s main stage. Thom, born and raised less than 20 miles from where the festival is held, will be showcasing her new blues album ‘Merchants and Thieves’ to local fans for the first time at Wizard.

Kid British will be making a first ever appearance in the North-East of Scotland when they play Wizard’s main stage. Described as a ’21st century punky reggae party’ Kid British are guaranteed to get the party started with their raucous live show certain to set Wizard’s main stage on fire.

Proud Mary are one of the festival’s favourite acts, with fans demanding that the band return year after year. Showcasing their eagerly anticipated yet to be named third album, festival fans will be treated to an exclusive preview of new songs from this talented group of musicians some of whom will be flying in from Los Angeles especially for this show.

Following a storming set at Wizard in 2008, The Dykeenies will make a welcome return to the North-East’s only two day music festival this August. The Glasgow based four piece are sure to get festival goers grooving with their punchy pop melodies.

These acts join an already impressive line up including Happy Mondays, James, Alabama 3, Pearl and the Puppets, Complete Stone Roses and the Peatbog Faeries. Top Glasgow DJ’s SLAM have also been confirmed to headline the festival’s dance tent on Saturday August 28th. More headline DJ acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Hip Parade will be playing at Wizard following a summer of storming main stage sets at festivals across the UK. Root System will be bringing their unique mix of ska, techno and punk to Wizard’s main stage.

The Draymin, who hail from Fife, make their Wizard festival and indie fans are sure to enjoy this appearance by a band that have been tipped for greatness in 2010.

Bringing a touch of bagpipe rock to Wizard will be Scottish festival favourites The Dangleberries. This is a first ever appearance by the renowned 12 piece that uses bagpipes, guitars, drums and a tambourine to get fans dancing with a mix of Celtic cover versions and original material.

Roy Thain, Wizard festival director said:

‘We have added loads more top quality acts to the programme and many of them will be performing at Wizard for the first time so that is always very exciting. We think that we have put out our strongest line up ever this year and we are delighted that so many great bands are really keen to perform to festival fans in the North-East. One of the things that we are really passionate about is supporting up and coming acts from north of the border and so we have made a real effort to book as many young breaking Scottish acts as possible. Making the bill varied with lots of different genres of music opens the event up to as many fans as possible and we are convinced that this year’s line-up will attract music fans from across the UK and beyond.’

The organisers have also announced an online competition where festival fans have the chance to win a pair of weekend tickets.

Wizard festival is two day music, arts and cultural event that takes place each year just outside the ancient village of New Deer, Aberdeenshire. A family friendly event, the festival also runs a full two day programme of activities for children and young people.

Last year the festival attracted more than 4000 fans from across the UK and has trebled in size since its first ever outing in 2007.

Transport links to and from the festival have been increased this year with busses running from every major Scottish city as well as local routes. Visit the Happy Bus site for more information: http://www.happybus.co.uk/wizard-festival-c-111

Weekend Ticket – £70
Saturday Ticket – £45

BBC Introducing Artists to play at Wychwood Music Festival

The Wychwood Festival has partnered with BBC Introducing to provide a unique platform for emerging artists by renaming a stage at the annual event.

The partnership will see Wychwood’s third stage rebranded as the BBC Introducing in Gloucestershire stage, and will invite the six counties that border Gloucestershire to submit bands that they endorse to play on it.

The annual festival takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse from Friday, 4 June, to Sunday, 6 June, 2010.

BBC Introducing shows from BBC Radios Oxford, Bristol, Wales, Coventry & Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Hereford & Worcester and, of course, Gloucestershire will each submit ten bands to a judging panel.

The panel will consist of BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 1′s Bethan Elfin, The Independent newspaper’s music critic Elisa Bray and Wychwood’s Festival Director Graeme Merrifield who will pick the final line-up of 28 bands from the 70 submitted.

The partnership is the first time that a number of regional BBC Introducing outlets have joined forces to provide a unique platform for emerging artists by giving them a direct route to BBC Introducing at a national level, via the judging panel, and an opportunity to be included in the line-up of one the UK’s leading festivals.

BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Introducing presenter Rob Champion said: “We’re so happy to be working with the Wychwood Festival as well as our colleagues from the six bordering BBC regions on such an innovative partnership.

“I can’t think of a better opportunity, not only for our up and coming artists in Gloucestershire, but for those in the wider area.

“Wychwood is a big deal for local bands here, it represents a major achievement to play at such a prestigious, vibrant and eclectic festival and I can’t wait to be there!”

The ten Gloucestershire artists and bands that could now be performing at Wychwood are: Zen Elephant, Aspen Sails, Charlie Baxter, Divine Secret, Elliot Withers, Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun, Lounge Fly, Roving Crows, The Echoes and Young Vinyls.

The final line-up of 28 bands over the three days as decided by the judging panel will be announced soon.

Alex Calise – Break Me mp3

alexx calise

Crunchy, angsty, and unique.

“Throw your words at me, I’ll have my way with them,” mocks young and sharp-tongued singer, guitarist and songwriter, Alexx Calise.

Delivering a sound that is both fresh and uniquely her own, Calise combines hard rock, electronica, and urban-edged pop with crunchy guitars, angsty lyrics, and an instantly identifiable vocal that is hauntingly beautiful and completely raw all at once.

Calise grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she spent her childhood mostly alone or in the pages of a notebook, finding comfort only in her parents’ vast record collection, which included everything from Mozart to Led Zeppelin. At 11, she picked up the guitar to emulate her father, also a talented musician, and began fusing the melodies she heard in her head with her own poetry and recitations.

Now living in Los Angeles, California and continuing along the same path, Calise is endorsed by over 13 music gear/clothing manufacturers, she has appeared in several national TV commercials, shows and special programs (including the Discovery Channel documentary, “The Science of Sex Appeal”), and she has been featured in Blender magazine, Guitar World, and the how-to/method book, “How to Succeed as a Female Musician” alongside such notable musicians as Lisa Loeb and The Donnas. Her music is in heavy rotation on MTV/VH1 Networks, and on thousands of radio stations internationally. Most recently, Alexx’s song, “Morning Pill” was used in a One Tree Hill promo, she appeared as the lead guitarist for a Disney Imagineering DVD about soundwaves, and she was featured on Boston’s #1 Hit Station, Kiss 108 FM as a “hot up-and-coming indie artist.”

Calise has just released her 2nd album, In Avanti, a high energy “rocktronica” collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer, Luigie Gonzalez. Immediately following will be her debut album with other music project, Sound of Cancer (with accomplished drummer/songwriter, Dennis Morehouse).
