RYM Ultimate Box Set
This is a post on a forum by a future reviewer on here, Jordan Stiva:
There’s a project going on called the RYM: Ultimate Box Set going over at the incredible Rateyourmusic.com in which the goal is to compile compilations that explore the history and evolution of music, mostly in the Western hemisphere but we’re hoping to touch on Japanese influences and there’s a big emphasis on African music.
Here’s the info. Also, for those interested in helping the cause in the rock department, there’s a few categories open Here Just look for “Theme Available”, and I’ll apply it for you and give you some props and access to the rest of the discs.
Anyway, I’m doing Art Pop and the Garage Rock Revival of the early 2000s. Since I cut my teeth on The Strokes and The White Stripes and that lot, I can handle the Garage Rock one no bother but Art Pop…yeah, that’s a different story.
So, I pretty much know Bjork, Brian Eno, Sparks and…yeah. The RYM page for it helps a hell of a lot but it’s in terms of picking the best song to represent each artist. Anyway, an early track list looks like:
1. Scott Walker – 30th Century Man
2. David Bowie – Changes
3. Brian Eno – Baby’s on Fire
4. Cockney Rebel – Sebastian
5. 10cc – I’m Not In Love
6. Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
7. Roy Wood – You Sure Got It Now
8. Split Enz – Late Last Night
9. John Greaves, Peter Blegvad and Lisa Herman – Twenty-Two Proverbs
10. Harvey Gold – I Keep a Watch
11. Godley & Creme – An Englishman in New York
12. Bill Nelson – Furniture Music
13. Slapp Happy – Casablanca Moon
14. Laurie Anderson – O Superman
15. Japan – Ghosts
16. David Sylvian and Ryuichi Sakamoto – Bamboo Houses
17. The The – Giant
18. Talk Talk – Life’s What You Make It
19. Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill
20. Jane Sibbery – The Lobby
21. Rain Tree Crow – Blackwater
22. Bjork – Homogenic
23. David Sylvian – Darkest Dreaming
24. Anja Garbarek – The Diver
25. Stereolab – Captain Easychord
26. Sparks – My Baby’s Taking Me Home
27. The Flaming Lips – Ambulance Driver
28. St. Vincent – Paris is Burning
29. Simon Bookish – Colophon
30. Bat for Lashes – Daniel
That’s the current listing by the man himself, Mr Jordan Stiva.
